It’s been more than three years since the release of Windows 10, yet many enterprises are still early in their Windows 7 to Windows 10 migration journey. Although Microsoft has extended support of Windows 7 until 2023, the choice to delay the upgrade beyond the initial January 2020 deadline will likely come with a steep…
Geisinger is one of the largest health service organizations in the US and sets an example in healthcare VDI environments. With about 30,000 employees, Geisinger’s computing environment not only has to scale across its hospitals and research facilities, but it also needs to guarantee a certain standard of performance so that its staff can maintain a high quality of care. An organization…
Lakeside Software is leaving VMworld 2018 on a high note. Literally. I’m writing this over the Mojave Desert, surrounded by members of our team, swiftly (hopefully) returning to our home base in Michigan. There’s a strong blogger and press presence at VMworld, and sites like BrianMadden.com have already published great live blogs and recaps. To…

Do your users’ virtual desktops spark joy? If not, it might be time to right-size your VDI. There are many compelling reasons to implement VDI. Placing multiple users on the same host can make hardware use more efficient and lower maintenance needs. Additionally, because the guest OS doesn’t live on the user’s device, VDI can…
Those of us in the end-user computing (EUC) space deal with the consequences of legacy systems and processes every day. It’s an ongoing effort to figure out what’s out there, how it’s performing, who is using it, and what their end-user experience is like. Ultimately this process can make understanding IT of the past much…
Last week, in a flurry of caffeine-induced inspiration, I started thinking about IT’s role in open-plan offices. I already knew that I wanted to communicate how need-based procurement—that is, using data to understand what end users need and acquiring technology to meet those needs—can alter employees’ engagement with their workspaces. Citrix XenDesktop is a dedicated software solution for configuring virtual environments. While virtualization can apply to several areas, including the virtualization of servers, storage, as well as networks, XenDesktop is specifically designed for the configuration of virtual desktops. However, this is often confused with a similar virtualization software solution, Citrix XenApp. In this post, we…
Questions about how to assess data quality and transform end-user data into insights are among the first steps when considering rolling out a digital transformation initiative. Do we already collect the data we need? You may wonder. There are three basic questions you can follow up with to determine your organization’s data preparedness: Are you collecting…
Collection from the Endpoint With so many aspects of enterprise computing being managed or hosted externally, Lakeside’s point of view that end-user experience is the most important metric in IT rings loud and clear. Why? Because now more than ever, not only is the endpoint one of the last resources that can be managed by enterprise IT but it is and has…
